From earliest to final. It's good to have progress photos, because I didn't remember that the painting was ever so dark. The first shot is the colors I saw and put to canvas. But the final painting is really what the experience was - bright, blinding sun on the snow. Grasses standing behind shadows cast on the plain in front of them.
I woke up thinking about sculpture. Michelangelo said "I mean by sculpture what is done by removing" but he said the sculpture that "is done by adding is similar to painting".
I think my paintings are the first kind of sculpture. I put a whole bunch of color and structure on the canvas and then start taking it away.
