I've heard people say they think artists are egotistical to do so many self portraits. What they don't understand is that I'm always a model at hand - I'll stand still as long as I want to draw, and I don't charge by the hour. My face - my eyes, my skin, my nose, my mouth - are as good as anyone's when I want to see how light falls or try to reproduce these in charcoal, pencil, ink. It's all exercise.
This drawing is a year old, and I don't think it looks like me. But I also don't always recognize myself when I look in the mirror...so what do I know.
